A Personal Learning Network (PLN) is something that most of us are accustomed to using in an educational or professional aspect. We use email, social media, newsletters, chat rooms, and even Google to gain new knowledge and to network with other professionals. But golfers can absolutely utilize a PLN to improve their golf game!
To create your own PLN in order to improve your game, you can utilize a variety of resources. I will outline a few examples below.
Family/Local Community There is a huge community of golfers. Head out to your local golf course and you will find a diverse community: teachers, doctors, plumbers; men, women; children and grandparents. Folks of many backgrounds, genders and ages all participate in golf. Each of them has learned different tips and tricks to improve their golf in a variety of ways. These could include formal lessons, tips from their buddies, or even just observing other golfers. Adding these folks to your PLN allows you to pick their brain and tap into their knowledge base. Are you struggling with your putter, and your buddy is always one-putting? Ask him what he's doing and how he learned it!
Print and Digital Resources There is a plethora of information available in both print and digital form. Go to a library and you will find golf instruction books and manuals, or articles in golf magazines. Digitally - the world is your oyster! There are entire websites dedicated to golf instruction, there are videos posted on YouTube, and if you simply do a Google search on "how to improve my golf game," you'll get over 2 million results. Here is one video for your viewing pleasure:
