Last week, I addressed podcasts. This week, we were encouraged to listen to more podcasts as they related to our PLNs. There is a plethora of podcasts out there, and it can be difficult to find the good ones. I use the Castbox app to listen to podcasts, so I started simply by opening up my Castbox app, and in the search box, I typed "Instructional Technology". One of the first ones to pop up was a podcast titled, Instructional Redesign. As I browsed the episodes to give one a listen, the first one that caught my eye was Episode 007: Personal Learning Networks. Well, now, that's definitely right in line with what I was trying to find!
The hosts, Joseph Suarez and Cara North had a great discussion on how they navigate their PLNs, and eluded to the point that we can be very social when it comes to our PLNs, or we can be very introverted. The introverts tend to be consumers of information posted by others in their network, where the more social butterflies do more interacting with those people. I find that I'm a pretty good balance of both.
They also talked about the specific tools they have used, and one that really caught my attention is an app called Nuzzel. This app works very similarly to Feedly, in that it creates a list of articles, however, it uses your social media contacts (through Twitter) to post articles that have been posted by those you follow, and those who they follow. I've read a large variety of articles I probably would have never discovered, simply by using this new app!
So my two takeaways this week, is that I have added two awesome resources to my PLN. The Instructional Redesign podcast, and the Nuzzel app. If you can check either or both of those out, maybe they can be a resource for you as well.
Thanks for reading!
I would be one of the consumers as opposed to a producer. I truly don't have the time day to day to mine social media information. When I do, I am goal oriented in the search or analysis of a specific need. Thanks for the recommendations.
